Textpattern - CMS
Top Features
- flexible
- easy author interface
- great community support
Textpattern is a CMS. Its the software that is used to write this site. It is a tool which is used when the maintenance of a website is separate from its design. So the site is set up and then the user(s) can add and edit entries as needed. This is a very powerful model – even if you are able to write HTML as needed to add content to your site, its nice to be able to just type the material in without thinking about layout or styling at the same time.
Textpattern is used with a simple markup language, so when you put in articles, you can also add hyperlinks, titles, lists, and tables very easily without needing any technical skill. The site can be set up and the users can be given logins which give them access to whichever areas of the site they have permissions to work with. As a result the users don’t see any more controls than they will be using, which makes the site quite simple to read.
You can organise your content into sections and lay out sections in different formats which is a great feature – the non-technical users don’t even need to know which templates to use, they just indicate which section of the site the content is for.
Try Our Demo
We’ve made available a basic installation of textpattern, so that it is possible to log in and see the admin interface and also to make changes to it and see these reflected on the demonstration website. Please do feel free to try it out and drop us an email at techsupport@woollyblanket.co.uk if you have any queries or problems.
The site itself is at demo.woollyblanket.co.uk/textpattern and the tool to use to add articles or change them is at demo.woollyblanket.co.uk/textpattern/textpattern. You can log into the admin tool with the username “author” or the username “editor” – the passwords are the same as the usernames. An author can contribute material and see their own contributions, and an editor can contribute material but also edit, move, delete and publish material. Do log in and try these tools – and feel free to add comments on the site itself.
